Anne Frank, a girl not much younger than us, had to give up her everyday life to survive. Taken away from friends, good education and the real world. Taken into hiding for 2 years. The only people in which she could talk to was her family and a few others, none of which she could confide in completely. So, her new trusted friend Kitty, supplied her with this opportunity. Someone who was patient and listened, "because paper has more patience than people."
Anne was quick to judge people, and we today aren't any different. Living in the conditions she did, she had to get along with the few people living amongst her. However, Anne immediately judged them, without giving them time to show who they really are. We are told to never judge a book by its cover, keep reading on and then you can truly judge. Anne judged them before reading the first page. After living years together in this confined space, Anne learnt and understood this important lesson. Although it took time, she got to discover who everybody in the annexe really was and also found her true self.
Anne is a beautiful young girl who is extremely curious. She gets into a lot of trouble and struggles to stay out of an argument. She feels as if nobody is interested in what she has to say or how she is feeling. Within 25 months of hiding, Anne grew in many ways. She found a new her. When they first were moved to the annexe, Anne immediately judged. However, comparing her 25 months later, you can see a big change in the way she treated people and how she did things. She became fond of those living in the annexe with her and formed some type of tolerance for them.
Living in the time of war was a struggle, especially if you were Jewish and were in hiding. As it was, Jews were forbidden to do many things, such as using public transport, ice skating and were forced to wear the Star of David on their clothing so they were easily detected. When Anne and her family were hiding they had to work around many restrictions. There were only certain times of the day where they were allowed to run water, flush the toilet, open windows and make some noise without being discovered. Besides these times, everything was quiet and everything was still. These little things today we take for granted. Reading the diary of Anne Frank gave me a better understanding of what it feels like to be grateful. The simplest of things brought joy to them, the bringing in of boxes of strawberries. We today take everything that enters our lives for granted and take advantage of it. Anne only had the necessities. People now would never be able to live in the conditions they survived in for 2 years, as people today have become more greedy.
Anne Frank can be looked upon as an inspiration and as a role model. Anne persevered and was willing to fight for what she believed was right. An example of this was when she wrote about her struggles with Mr Dussel over the desk they were to share.
This novel has demonstrated to me that life isn't always fair and we should be grateful for the life we are given instead of wishing for one that is not ours. It's made me realise how lucky we are today to live in a country where we are safe from war and have the right to use or do what we please. Reading this diary has definitely changed the way I will live my life. The book Anne frank has many morals that we today should all try and live by.
