This image shows men armed and ready to fight, protect and show their respect to their country.
In my opinion, some of the men look worried and scared about what they are about to encounter on their journey ahead. What consequences they will have to face and hardships they will have to overcome. Leaving their family behind, not knowing when, or whether they will return. Days turning into weeks, into months, turning into years of pain and suffering of all kinds.
Some men look like they are trying to put on a brave face. Trying to show they are not scared of what's to come. Perhaps show the children, women and their families to stay strong, not letting them know how scared they really are.
The rest seem proud to be going into war to protect their country. Wearing their uniform with pride and thinking war will be a breeze. Not actually knowing the pain they are due to suffer. Proud to represent their country, their mind set on one thing:
Dolce et decorum est, pro patria mori. "It is sweet and noble to die for your country."

The red poppies symbolise remembrance. Its also shows respect to the soldiers who gave their lives for our country to be this way today. The poppy makes me think about all the hardships the men and women who went to war would have had to suffer. It reminds me how lucky we are to live in a safe place away from war and danger. The poppy is worn to honour those who have sacrificed their lives during wars.
Poppies are symbols of sleep or death. They were given as an offering to the dead and are placed on tombstones to symbolise eternal sleep.
The white scarlet poppy gives a promise of resurrection after death.
